Do you have difficulty hearing on the telephone? Do you take your hearing aid out to use the phone? There are several phones on the market today that not only give increased volume but also allow you to change the pitch of the incoming voice so that the words may be more clear. There are adapters that you can carry with you to use on telephone receiver when volume control is not available. Most hearing aids can be purchased with a telecoil in them which enables you to use your hearing aid with the phone and then you benefit from both the volume and pitch range that your hearing aid provides you.

Do you avoid going to plays, movies and other community activities because you can not hear well? Do you turn down the opportunity to serve on a jury and decline invitations to social events because of the same reason? There are assistive devices that can help you to hear and participate in each of these situations!

To find out more about hearing assistive technology, contact HLA-MI to schedule a presentation by a trained Hearing Technology Resource Specialist (HTR Specialists). HLA-MI has trained over 30 volunteers across the state to educate their local communities about hearing assistive technology. HTR Specialists use customized demonstration kits containing various types of devices that can help you hear better in daily living situations.

If you have Microsoft powerpoint, you can download this Hearing Assistive Technology presentation to view.
